Class Parents
Class parents are an integral part in helping our schools function more effectively by ensuring that every family is aware of all goings-on at Deane Porter and Forrestdale, from important academic information and upcoming school events to class parties and PTO meeting recaps.
The role of the class parent is to support and build community within the classroom, as well as to serve as a communication liaison between the classroom families, the classroom teacher, the PTO. Serving as a class parent is an excellent opportunity to connect to your child’s class and to be involved in both the classroom and student/family community.
Responsibilities
The following outlines the responsibilities for Class Parents, as expected by the teacher and the PTO. Each class has two Class Parents who will work together to share these responsibilities.
- Support the Classroom: Coordinate with teachers on classroom needs, parties, events and class trips.
- Keep Families Connected: Share PTO communications, maintain the class directory and welcome new families.
- Manage Class Dues: Collect dues and manage the class budget for events and teacher gifts. Learn more about Class Dues vs. PTO Membership
- Volunteer at PTO Events: Volunteer at a minimum of two PTO events and help recruit additional volunteers. Fun examples include Fall Fest, Lunch with a Loved One, Art Shows, Book Fair and Field Days.
- Attend PTO Meetings: Participate in all monthly PTO meetings.
- Parent’s Night Out: Coordinate class donations and assemble a basket for the PTO’s annual PNO fundraiser.
